Leadership Fitness!

The equivalent of leadership in your life is exercise. The more you do it, the easier it gets. The more you do it, the stronger and more confident you get. The better you get at it, the more people you impact in a positive way – usually because your mood is great- oh and all those insta posts of you looking fit and fab. No, seriously though, people really do get the best version of you if you keep leadership fit! Meanwhile, sometimes as you are ‘doing’ leadership, it feels shit and like it will never be over (insert performance management meeting here or redundancy meeting). Sometimes you sweat. Sometimes you cry! Sometimes you are worried you can’t show up because you are still too sore from yesterday. But once you get going again, things loosen up and away you go. If you try new exercises you can strengthen other muscles. If you stop trying to get better and stronger, it’s easy to lose focus on what’s important and then to become unfit which is so much harder to come back from. Trust me… I know. If we think of leadership as exercise and keep our fitness up, we will surprise even ourselves with what we can achieve.
